E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} from Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Wst. V6065 Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Wst.4/KT.10.1.33. PEREGRINE DYNAMO. During our conversation some time ago we reminded you of the excessive high speeds attained by the dynamo on the Peregrine chassis, i.e. at full throttle 7500 r.p.m. We have now had the opportunity of examining the dynamo removed from 2.Per.II after 12,000 miles running in France. As expected, the brushes had worn considerably, the wear being well in excess of that experienced under standard running conditions on the 20/25 HP. The commutator had also worn and shewed evidence of bad commutation. We viewed the condition of this dynamo with some alarm in view of the fact that the voltage controlled dynamo conditions may be worse at higher speeds with all lamps on. We consider steps should be taken to ascertain how the dynamo speed can be reduced, as soon as possible, as we are not at all satisfied with the condition referred to above. A partial solution would be to fit brushes of a harder grade, but if we do this we should anticipate a considerable increase in the noise of the machine. We should like to have an opportunity of discussing this question with you at your earliest possible convenience. Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Wst. | ||
