engine and supply the carburetter (fitted with standard air silencer) from it. The autovac was so fitted, complete with pipe line, filters etc. and the engine was run up to full power, the BHP. being noted.

The carburetter was then supplied with petrol from test bed pipe line, engine was run up to full power and BHP. noted - in this way by comparison, any loss in power due to petrol starvation is shown up.

The autovac level running at about 1200 r.p.m. was marked and the level when running full throttle at 2750 was marked - fall in level found to be 3/8". Apparently the suction of the pump is becoming the limiting factor under these conditions.
