To EFC. from R.{Sir Henry Royce} Copy to CJ. " " EH. 3rd February, 1919. R1/G3219. 11B X. 2048 RE NON-TREMBLER IGNITION. I had occasion to put into use the coil of the non-trembler ignition which you sent to us sometime ago with the Remy. I first tried to use the Remy coil which had been exposed to the same atmospheric conditions as the experimental R.R. one, but the Remy broke down, probably through absorbing moisture, owing to it being made and used in a climate where the atmospheric conditions are less trying. Our own coil, probably owing to the more thorough drying and impregnating, has stood the conditions quite well. Will you please send a suitable resistance for putting into circuit with this coil, when using six volts, also a condenser to put across the terminals of the contact breaker (timer) of a pattern which would ensure the lasting of the platinum points (charging the whole of this to me.) I also want a small two-way switch which can be arranged to earth either pole of a 12 volt battery, so as to reverse the current through the ignition circuit, which is connected to the middle of the battery. You will notice that this switch must be one which does not reach over when switching from one side to the other, in fact it should be a three-way one with a neutral insulated position in the middle.
