Dear Sirs,

26-EX. - SIR HENRY ROYCE'S CAR.

We are very distressed that this car should be so late.

It will be remembered that we agreed to the working of overtime on the coachwork and to the special transportation of the chassis to Derby for final adjustments after temporarily mounting the body, all to enable the car to be completed by the 15. August. We now learn that it will not be ready for delivery from you until the 22. Aug.

We sent you the necessary particulars to make this body on the 23. April and there has been no delay for information. The finishing instructions were issued on the 25. June. The full size drawing was completed by the 29. April, by which time the subframe had been received. The body was unusually long at the body makers and it seems to have made very slow progress during the last month in spite of the fact that we have agreed to overtime.

We would like to confirm the following remarks that we have made either over the telephone or during our visits:-

(1) The finish of the waist moulding at the screen pillar is not exactly what we had intended. The sketch herewith illustrates how we intended the waist moulding to die away into the scuttle moulding. The stainless steel moulding on the body must match up perfectly accurately with the side hinge of the bonnet so that the two appear to be continuous. There must be no break in the line.

(2) When we saw the body all the mouldings above the waist line and the pillars etc were painted with fish scale. We presume this is just merely an oversight, as we have in both a written description and an annotated drawing indicated the colour scheme in detail. The mouldings and the pillars above the waist line should be blue.

(3) The leather trimming on the doors must be entirely plain, the squabs of the front bucket seats must be pleated, and also the squab of the rear seat. The cushions of both front and rear seats should be plain.
