Re. 25/30HP Oil Consumption Test and the fitting of 'L' shaped rings.

In order to determine the effect of 'L' shaped rings, we took a standard production chassis GRM-18 and carried out the usual oil consumption test. We obtained a figure of 820 m.p.g., the 'L' shaped rings were then fitted and a further test was made which gave a result of 1094 m.p.g.

As the oil consumption prior to fitting the 'L' shaped rings was very much better than we have been obtaining hitherto, we arranged to make a test on another production chassis GRM-19, this gave a result of 1100 m.p.g. in an absolutely standard condition.

We endeavoured to find a reason for the improvement in oil consumption and the only alteration made since we were getting consumptions up of 300 to 400 m.p.g. is the deletion of the small hole in the connecting rod. We had the connecting rods dismantled and the small holes were drilled in the rods, no other alteration being made.

The test has been repeated today and the oil consumption is 445 m.p.g.
