Visit to The British Tool & Engineering Co., Ltd., Wolverhampton. Purpose. To determine their possible capacity for assisting in production as above. Procedure. As this gun has not been operation planned, it is not possible to decide specifically, "on sight", just how much work can be allocated to a given number of mixed machines. For this reason, a complete analysis of the factory was made as follows: ---------- A Plan of the factory is attached. 1) The total "shop" area including stores = 4 3/4 Acres. 2) Included in this area is one complete shop with a floor area of ............ 60,000 Sq. Ft. which is sublet to the Goodyear Tyre & Rubber Co., for storage purposes. This is a brick building, higher than the average, with the usual girder type roof. 3) Existing Machine Floor Space ......... 25,000 Sq. Ft. But this is only covered by 40% of its area by machines which, however, are working to full capacity on present 1A priority contracts. 4) Existing Finished Stores, (Warehouse) 25,000 Sq. Ft. This is fully occupied by the goods manufactured, factored and imported. 5) Operators. Total men 21 & over (excluding Foremen=10) = 169 Skilled ............... 70 (over 21) Semi " ............... 37 Unskilled ............. 11 Under 21) { ............. 22 (Trained) { ............. 61 (Semi-skilled) { ............. 6 (Unskilled) Women 18 and above ....... 9 (Skilled) " " " " ....... 28 (Semi " ) Girls under 18 ......... 4 (Unskilled) 258 Less clerical staff...... 89 Total....169 | ||
