LUCAS STARTER MOTOR ON Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}' CAR. This is to confirm our recommendation that the Lucas Starter Motor should be put on this car. We have not tried the Lucas Starter on the 8-cylinder engine yet because there is no scheme for fitting it to such an engine. We have, however, a great deal of experience with it in the Laboratory, and also 18 months running on it on two separate cars, one of which has been subjected to intensive starter motor work in addition to its ordinary running. Therefore, its reliability is reasonably well-established. With regard to its ability to turn the engine over, Laboratory tests show that it is not inferior to the Rolls-Royce Motor in this respect. In view of its simplicity of design, we think that we must get all the experimental cars running on this type of motor. Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} | ||
