To Ey. from Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Les.{Ivan A. Leslie} r7260. Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Les.1/AD30.9.31. P.II BONNET FITTING. We find that packings E.23334 are still used under the ferodo tape on the radiator and dash. We understand these were adopted to put a slight set on the bonnet thus preventing a complaint of the bonnet side panels flapping. On N.2 series the ferodo tape beds on the angle stiffeners. These stiffeners which prevent the bonnet side panels from flapping also prevent the slight set for which the packings were intended. In consequence the bonnet pivots on the packings and the bonnet clip spring puts an undue strain on the bonnet hinges. On the bumper chassis we have experienced a broken hinge in this way. The packings E.23334 have therefore been removed from both radiator and dash and 22 hours running at the maximum frame jellying speeds have been completed without any further failures of bonnet hinges. We therefore consider that such packing E.23334 should be left off on future production. Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Les.{Ivan A. Leslie} | ||
