The Cathode-ray unit has now been developed for use with the modified "Sunbury" cylinder pressure unit, with a view to portraying detonation phenomena. Satisfactory pressure crank-angle diagrams are obtained at speeds up to 4000 r.p.m., but at present the vibration precludes obtaining satisfactory rate-of-change diagrams above 2000 r.p.m. This matter is receiving attention. Audible detonation is however revealed on the pressure crank-angle diagram, and conditions have been investigated with two designs of cylinder head, viz:- No.3 Head - 1. 3. 39. No.4 Head -29. 3. 39. Photographic recording with single exposures appears to be unsatisfactory and capable of producing misleading results as wide variations between individual cycles have been observed. During the last series of tests, therefore, we arranged to record a long sequence of diagrams with a Cine camera. The results from these latter experiments should be of interest, and will be available very shortly. ............ Lr{Mr Ellor}/HWS. Lr{Mr Ellor}/HWS. | ||
