TO ~~RO.{C. C. Rose - Export Manager} E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer}~~ FROM R.{Sir Henry Royce} HS.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} ~~BY.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer}~~ (Le CanadelHenry Royce's French residence.) Copy to ~~CJ. BJ. WOR.{Arthur Wormald - General Works Manager}~~ [Stamp: ORIGINAL] R3/M30.3.26. Delivered to WW. during Easter holiday. [Handwritten Notes]: X4079 X4114 Y8060 X3804 Y5060 re. E.16. F.10. PHANTON & GOSHAWK HP. It is evident that you have touched the defect in getting the gas in and out of these engines by the restriction in the valve bends, and what you have done has definitely improved matters. One now thinks that new cylinders for F.10., and new head for E.16. should be pushed forward with all speed, doing all we have decided, and more if we can find a way of keeping the gas speed down, even lower than in any previous or competing engines. We should also look to the present Phantom, Goshawk, and new aluminium head for Phantom. Do we want water between the inlet passages? Can it be made into a single chamber and entrance? 1.4 valves for Eagle approved. R.{Sir Henry Royce} [Stamp bleed-through from reverse: RECEIVED 8 APR 1926 HS{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}] | ||
