Re Rapid Destructive test of Valve Springs. X.290

J. {Mr Johnson W.M.} 20-2-14.

Arising out of a complaint re Valve Springs breaking, on 30/7/13 you asked whether samples from each batch of springs received from the makers were put through a rapid destructive test, and Mr Wormald replied that we were testing samples but we required some apparatus to enable us to do this more rapidly in order to meet our demands, and Mr Wormald also requested the Drawing Office to design something suitable.

You wrote us again 6/12/13. On making enquiries we found that nothing had been designed, the Drawing Office being busy with other work, which they considered took preference, but we have been constantly urging this job since that date and we are now pleased to state that our Tool Room has to-day received instructions to prepare the necessary parts towards making us a Rig, which we hope will be suitable.
