re. GLR-49. High Geared Axle.

With reference to your LE6/R11.8.30, we notice that the special high-geared axle (12 tooth) which was supplied for this chassis, has now been changed for a standard 11 tooth, owing to customer's complaint of lack of acceleration even at 50 m.p.h., and that by tests you have found that the 12 tooth axle does not give definite advantage except for high speed work.

The above point we have always made clear when high geared axles have been requested, and we trust this will be made quite clear to Sales Dept. by C. as we do not wish to fit this type of axle if after delivery it has to be changed to a standard axle, as there is always the extra cost and inconvenience caused in fitting special features.

We take it that C. will send the necessary instructions to the Works to supply an axle to take the place of the 11 tooth one which you have taken from GLR-81 chassis. We take it the 12 tooth axle will be returned to the Works as soon as you hear from Mr. Cooper that he now appreciates the advantage of the standard axle being fitted.
