PHANTOM III.

33 Gallon Petrol Tank.

We send herewith LeC 4790 showing modifications which have been found necessary to the 33 gallon petrol tank for Phantom III made in the light gauge materal.

These changes are the result of the Works' experience of building two experimental tanks and of our examination of the tanks.

It was found necessary to add two vertical flutes to the three baffles in the tank. The flutes are shown running out at each end as it was found impossible to roll the flute into this thin sheet metal with an end that stopped short of the flange.

The top flat portion of the tank was subject to a biscuit tin action, and this caused the suction pipe to hit the top of the anti-surge tower. To overcome this we fitted by riveting and sweating a flute to the top of the tank as indicated. At the same time we enlarged the hole in the top of the anti-surge tower to 1" in diameter.

It will be necessary to make these modifications to the design for the 33 gallon petrol tanks in production.
