Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Aln.1/ADLO.9.31. 74644 TEST RIG FOR HERZMARK COMPRESSORS AND CLAUDEL-HOBSON PETROL PUMP. We attach a diagrammatic sketch showing an arrangement we wish to have fitted up for driving from the Phantom I engine in the supercharger test house. There are two compressors to be tested, for each of which a drive adaptor will be required. In the first place we want to test the compressors themselves by charging the air bottles. For this purpose we shall require the latter to be mounted with the openings downward so that a certain amount of oil can be introduced to act as a seal on the non-return valve of the compressor. Afterwards using the rest of the apparatus for testing the petrol pump, the bottles should be arranged with openings upward as shown. Since making the sketch we have obtained two larger bottles which can be used in place of the four shown. Pressures will be up to 200 lbs/sq.in. The grease cup is for containing oil which can be allowed to drip down to the petrol pump valve gear. On the petrol side pressures will be in the neighbourhood of 5 lbs/sq.in. The regulator valve cuts off the air going to the petrol pump when the petrol pressure exceeds a certain value but a restricting washer is required in the air supply to the pump with a 1.5 mm. hole, to prevent racing in the absence of petrol. This could probably be inserted at one of the unions. We have the compressors, petrol pump, regulating valve, air bottles and a gauge for 200 lbs. The petrol tank need be of only a gallon or two capacity. The larger compressor is about 8 1/2" high, the petrol pump 14" long and the bottles 2 feet long. Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Aln. | ||
