JWGB/VHG IN YOUR REPLY PLEASE QUOTE L.M/B 26th September, 1936. Messrs. Rolls-Royce Limited, DERBY. YOUR REF: Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}21/KW. Dear Sirs, FOR THE ATTENTION OF MR. W. A.{Mr Adams} ROBOTHAM. We have your favour of the 24th instant., from which we are sorry to learn that some of the owners of Phantom III cars are having some little difficulty with the lubrication of the valve gearing through the filter becoming covered with sludge. It is a matter which shall have our immediate attention, and we hope to write you early next week, making a definite appointment. In the meantime, it would be of interest to us to know whether in your own hands the same trouble has been experienced with Motorine C. We rather gather from your letter that your own experience has been with a competitor's oil, and that the trouble which has occurred has been only in the case of customers cars. We might point out that so-called Continental conditions are actually beneficial as far as clean combustion is concerned. Under such conditions the minimum of soot is formed as a product of combustion, and there is also the minimum accumulation of moisture. Both soot and moisture are prolific causes of trouble such as you describe. The oil itself is not in any way responsible. If we may say so it would have been helpful had a proportion of your experimental road running been carried out with Motorine C. Reverting to the question of a visit by the writer (Contd.) | ||
