Outlining the design principles and requirements for new Lucas headlamps.

In discussing the above question with Mr Oliver Lucas certain broad principles were laid down by general agreement for guiding the design work on the new lamps. These can be enumerated as follows:- (1) The new lamp to be of same maximum diameter as present P.100, and not to exceed the P.100 outline. (2) The aperture in the face of the new lamp for the glass to be as large as possible. (3) The new lamp to retain the present dip and switch mechanism. (4) The corners on the new design generally to be as sharp as possible consistent with other requirements. (5) A vertical straight bar to be provided for the lamp socket with features of satin finish. (6) The lamp front to be hinged, with the hinge at the top, and of more delicate proportions than the present P.100. (7) The base fixing to be interchangeable with P.100. (8) Lucas to produce two experimental lamps, one having the body lines on the same principle as the Marshall but somewhat fuller to leave room for tilting reflector, and the other to be an alternative plain shape. (9) Fixing for front not to have slotted screw but some form of clip to be considered by Messrs. Lucas. (10) The hinge for the lamp face to form a motif on the top brought forward sufficiently far to break up the continuity of the top rim. | ||
