S.S. EXHAUST SYSTEM:

Cut Out Valve.

Trouble has been continually experienced with the exhaust cut out valves. This takes the form of bad distortion of the valve and its spindle, which takes place either after prolonged full throttle running or in a more pronounced form after an explosion has taken place in the silencer. The result is a badly leaking valve and valve fluttering. Slight distortion of the valve casing has also been found. To overcome this trouble we have made up a valve to Sca.1167 in which the casing is strengthened by the addition of a web and a much stouter valve employed. This has proved satisfactory and has the following advantages over the present type :-

(a) No distortion after firing in the silencer.
(b) A more leak proof valve.
(c) No 'fluttering'.
(d) Less exhaust noise in the rear seats due to the stouter valve.

In view of the constant failure of the existing type of valve on S.S. cars, this strengthened type should be adopted at once for production S.S.
