340. To Hd.{Mr Hayward/Mr Huddy} from Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/Std. Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/Std.1/AP.21.12.36. As mentioned in attached copy of report Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/Std.11/AP.1.12.36., there are a certain number of Phantom III. cars in service at the moment, which were built with oil temperature regulator matrices which had not passed our production pressure test. Two of these cars 3.AZ-99 and 3.AZ-98 have already experienced failure of these units. As far as we have been able to determine, approximately ten such non-tested matrix units were fitted to cars (Nos.E.1. to E.10), we think therefore that any of the first twenty engine units should be suspected. Will you please therefore determine into which cars these first twenty engines were fitted and instruct service stations that when these cars come in for other work, their oil temperature regulator matrix units should be changed and the old units returned to the Works for pressure test (marked for the attention of Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/Std.)
