Re Howling Side Shafts (Carmine)
was completely blocked & the oil thrown up so that actually there is a tube (irregular in shape & texture) under the proper conditions to accentuate the note mentioned.
If true, the cure is a hole or two in the diaphragm.
The easiest way to test is to empty the oil from a box. I should expect then to get the loudest sound an octave higher than before - i.e. at twice the speed, but at that time other noises would mask it probably.
The theory explains simply why when the oil is less viscid the high noise
