Re Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/FJH{Fred J. Hardy - Chief Dev. Engineer}3/KW.7.4.36. The chief trouble was that the nut at the gear box end had not been screwed down hard to the bottom of the thread before the end of the stud was riveted over. The nut was loose on its thread and tended to work both tight and loose about 0.1" but could not come right off owing to riveting. At other end of stud there is insufficient length for a lock nut, also this end had been riveted over although the nut was screwed further down to give necessary adjustment.
