MR. J.111.

We expect to complete our last experimental Bentley car for Whitman. Our next urgent job we consider is then to produce J.111 car. We have in mind that at Olympia 1934 we ought to be showing and selling J.111 in place of the standard 25 HP.

In going over the specification of J.111 we find, as one would expect, there are a number of points which require modification.

Gearbox. - It has been agreed that we should use a gearbox mounted of the frame and not off the engine. The last gearbox designed at W.B. which was produced for the Bentley car was made this way. The advantage we gain from this is that we can mount our engine flexibly without the disadvantage of the change speed lever dancing about. The proposal was that we should use the 25 HP. box with the case modified for the new method of support.

Brake Gear. - We consider the brake gear should be modified on the lines of the Bentley chassis which gets the equalisers clear of the footboards in cases where wells are used.

Radiator Mounting. - We think we ought to have a centrally mounted radiator similar to the Sansport.

Ground Clearance. - We shall have to go over the ground clearance on this car. At present we think it is insufficient for a general purpose car such as we expect the 25 HP. to be.

Clutch. - We should like the clutch similar to the Bentley with the damped spring drive member.

Engine. - The lubrication should be modified to bring it in line with the latest Bentley and 25 HP.

Automatic Shocks. - There will be some modifications required on here to improve the method of oiling them.

Steering Clumn Controls. - These should be brought up to our latest type.

Dynamo & Wiring. - This should be arranged for voltage regulator.

It will be seen from the above list that we cannot at the moment instruct the experimental J.111 chassis. We think this matter is sufficiently important for you to arrange a conference
