Bentley Motors (1931) Ltd., D E R B Y ...................Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/ Piles Srl/Crn.30.11.37. SWDC 1245 chassis B. 10 GA - Baron Brincard. What are our records of No 7 bearing sinkage Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} I thought that you would be interested to know that we have just dismantled the engine of this chassis - mileage 26,875 miles. The customer is a "hard batter". The bearing sinkage was attended to on December 12th, 1936, at 13954 miles. The car was tested by us, and the under-signed, about 8 days ago, at the above mentioned mileage, viz: 26,875 miles, and was the roughest piece of work we have ever yet had anything to do with. Upon dismantling, the following sinkages were observed :- 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 In crankcase. .003 .007 .003 .004 .007 .007 .018 In caps. .004 .007 .002 .003 .007 .007 .004 You will notice that No 7 registered as much as .018. The crankshaft, however, was in a fairly good condition, necessitating only the stoning and polishing of the main journals. We are charging the owner with an R.20, I am glad to say. Sr. | ||
