C. R.{Sir Henry Royce} C. E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} Sc. Or. C. L. En. By.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} Ce. Roy.{Sir Henry Royce} I.X. The Roc Plant, LIMITED. 25.11.24 Mellalieu LAMPS. Springfield would like if possible to purchase English lamps, the reason for this is that the lamps form such a decorative part of the car; they would like something distinctive and avoid lamps which are similar to those fitted to cheap cars. The price of 'Lucas' lamps is prohibitive; they would be prepared to,pay two or three times as much, but the 'Lucas' price is over 5 times. The lamps they use were fitted to 25 EX., they are quite a good looking lamp and well made. They are made entirely of brass pressings which are nickel plated and chromium plated. There was no comment made on the appearance of the lamps and we accepted them as an alternative to 'Lucas'. The price they pay for two head, two side, combination tail which includes stop and backing light is 23.33 £ or approx. £4.15.0. I enclose invoice which gives details of the price. Springfield for a long time made their own lamps and their figure was 52.97 // for a set. I went round the factory here today of Wm. Hall & Co. who make the Springfield lamps. I was struck by the large variety of lamps they were making. Nearly every maker here is using distinctive lamps. The tool cost is high approx. 40.0 £ Contd. | ||
