Re - Some Recent Suggestions from Derby.

One would like to reduce the thickness of the liner in the new material but this move would cause too many difficulties at the moment.

X.3228 FLANGES FOR INLET AND EXHAUST BENDS AND BOXES.

We do not think it safe to alter the material of these flanges from nickel steel to mild steel, as owing to the shape of the joint there seems to be some probability of distortion of the bosses owing to their shallow thickness. Mr. Royce would like you to try a number of these flanges in mild steel and report again.

X.3258 BRIDGE PIECE FOR EXHAUST BEND.

We do not think this piece should be in mild steel as it has not a very great depth of section, and its duty is fairly heavy and important.

X.3255 S.4Y. SLING BRACKETS.

We think that mild steel for the above pieces is quite good enough, but Mr. Royce says "Test the new material before alteration".

X.2968E FREE FERODO RINGS IN FRICTION CONTROLLED ANCHORAGE.

With reference to the suggestion not to rivet the Ferodo to the larger steel rings, would you kindly note Mr. Royce says "polish the slipping plates and use rivets.. Also try without rivets and say which you like the better." It should be noted that the slipping plates as received by us were not smooth in the direction of slip but showed machining marks of small radius all over their working faces.
