PEREGRINE IGNITION DISTRIBUTOR

The ventilation of the distributor head on the new Peregrine distributor was found to be inadequate, and after a bench test of 500 hours duration the metal parts rusted considerably. We have since tried experiments on the bench with the distributor modified, following discussion with L. see 26/HP1.11.32.

(1) A small extension bolted to the rotor in order to give a fanning action.

(2) The two holes in the distributor head normally provided for ventilation, opened out .200".

(3) The addition of two more holes of .200" dia. drilled in the distributor base.

With this distributor, we carried out a bench test of 500 hours under standard conditions with a standard ignition coil, and we found a marked improvement in the condition of the metal parts inside the head. No rusting was apparent and no traces of nitrous-oxide deposit.

We consider, therefore, that these modifications should be incorporated as soon as possible as they show definite improvements in the ventilation of the distributor. It might be possible to mould two small vanes on the inside of the "mushroom" high tension rotor instead of the one which we tried experimentally. This should prove an additional advantage.
