contd :- -2- if it would be so effective as our own at the lower and more used speeds. No doubt each possesses specific advantages and the selection of the type of damper to give the optimum results probably depends to a large extent on the crankshaft employed and other engine factors. From our experience we should say that the conventional friction damper would not be suited to an engine having its synchronous speed within its normal working range such as would probably result with a heavy crankshaft having balance weights attached to the webs. The above notes we think explain the limitations of the normal friction type damper which is the experience of others as well as ourselves. We shall much appreciate any information which you obtain for us from Mr. Summers on your 'Harmonic Balancer'. It might help us if you could send us the Patent Specification of the 'Summers Balancer'. Thanking you. Yours faithfully, | ||
