NEW PLATES AND OLD FABRICS.

Why should new plates cause knocks if the old ones did
not; it is hardly logical.

E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} suggests water swollen fabric and spring screwed up
choc-o-bloc to get sufficient friction.

We can add 50% more area which one thinks would be good
anyway. The design for this is sent to Derby by the same post
as this memo.

The spring must be suitable to the required pressure
with fair rating and no limit collar.
