R1/D3610 3rd June 1910. Claude Johnson, Esq., Imperial Hotel, Rue Christophe-Colomb, Paris. Dear C.J., I went a ride in the 22 H.P. Knight-Daimler. It certainly went very well indeed; the chassis seemed nicely sprung behind but swayed up and down as though it wanted shock absorbers; - excellent driver (amateur, friend), who said he had four new wheels in the gear box. It did not seem to pull well slowly. The carburetter had been altered by someone else at Nottingham; - even now the driver did not seem able to get the right mixture ar varying speed, i.e. it did not pull steadily but climbed hills fast owing to driver getting on to low gear and keeping engine buzzing round. It was a four-speed gear box which gave a very suitable gear for every hill climb we did, - much the same as our 2,000 mile arrangement. [Handwritten in left margin: X432 ✓] | ||
