25HP. BATTERY AND BOX.

We send herewith N. sch. 3169. shewing a design for a sheet metal battery box for the 25HP. chassis on the lines of that for P.2., with every effort to cheapen the construction consistent with our requirements having been made.

BATTERY. On the main scheme we shew a moulded battery box like the one you now have, but with a lid{A. J. Lidsey} as on P. 2. The battery is turned round from its present position.
For test purposes on 18-G-4. we suggest that you fit a wooden lid{A. J. Lidsey} to the one you now have.
We also shew that a six cell in line battery will go in the same length of box, and the box can be narrowed.
We prefer this battery from the leakage between the cells standpoint.

BOX. The box is carried in a simple manner, being controlled at the front, and merely held up at the rear.
We wish to test the cantilever rear support first before going to a complete crossmember.
Many pieces are from the P. 2. box and every effort has been made to use the same piece in several places.

WIRING. The wiring has been remodelled on the lines of P. 2. which reduces the amount of conduit on the near side, and avoids taking a conduit over the crossmember in front of the battery, which is difficult.
The battery plus, and starter plus, cross the frame at the back of the gearbox. The length of starter cable is not materially increased.
No protection is needed we feel for the wires between the battery and the conduit, as they are behind the crossmember to some extent, also similar wires on P. 2. are not protected.

We should like to get a sheet metal box on 18-G-4. before it goes to France on a 10,000 miles test, as the present battery and box are expensive, and not altogether up-to-date.
