Customer complaints about removing the 20 HP undershield and proposing a modification to simplify the process.

UNDERSHIELD. 4272 We have received a number of complaints from customers as regards the difficulty of removing the Undershield on the 20 HP. car. It has been suggested that we should provide a quickly detachable pocket on the side of the Undershield in order to get at the oil relief valve. The chief reason that the undershield is so difficult to get up and down is due to the fact that on each side of the undershield we fit 4 hooks. These hooks are only used to hold the undershield in position whilst the spring clips are hooked on. Once these clips are on, the whole weight of the undershield is taken by them. The hooks at the front end of the undershield come very close to the front radx panel at which point the undershield is very stiff which makes it very difficult to take it up and down. We recommend that we make use of only one hook for each side, the rest of the present hooks we cut off the hook portion and still retain the metal strips to locate the undershield sideways. It should also be arranged that there should be no overlap at the front end of the undershield where it fits into the cross member. We have arranged the undershields on experimental cars in this way and find that we can much more easily take them down and put them up. Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} | ||
