Instructions for dismantling and adjusting the steering system.

-2- Dismantling Steering. (1) Hold steering column and box in vice with special clamp. (2) Remove control levers at bottom of box. (3) Undo nut at bottom of stationary tube and drive stationary tube off taper. (4) Pull controls out of column. (5) Remove lock plate and nut holding steering wheel. (6) Undo four nuts holding steering box to column. (7) Withdraw box and cam tube from outer tube. (8) Undo five nuts on rocking shaft end cover. (9) Withdraw rocking shaft. (10) Take steering cam tube out of box with sleeve. (11) Tap sleeve off steering cam. To rebuild the steering column and box reverse operations. Steering Adjustments. There are four adjustments which should be correctly set to obtain the best steering. They are:- (1) Tightness on rocker shaft bearings. Assemble rocker shaft complete with roller follower in empty steering box, select washer A Fig. to give sufficient tightness on the bearings B and C to produce ½ - 1½ lbs. drag on the end of the pendulum lever, when plate J is tightened up.
