2x706 Exptl. Dept. Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/AFM.{Anthony F. Martindale}17/JH. 5th November, 1936. Messrs. Lake & Elliot, Braintree, Essex. Dear Sirs, H.F. Millenite. We have recently run a set of aluminium brake drums fitted with Millenite liners 15,000 miles on a 4 1/4 litre Bentley car. The braking during this mileage was excellent in every way, the drums weighing 1 1/2 lbs less than our standard drums (which you consider too light). On examination of the liners we found they were very badly scored, and we return a sample of the worst drum for your examination. We shall be interested in any comments you have to make. The Ferodo used was S.5805, which is supposed to score drums less badly than M.R. or F.B.A., and we estimate that the temperature of the rubbing surface has never exceed 200°C. Yours faithfully, FOR ROLLS-ROYCE LTD. | ||
