Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/ACL/T19.5.26. THE NEW PHANTOMCodename for PHANTOM I ENGINE LUBRICATION SYSTEM AND THE FUNDAMENTALS OF OVEROILING ON THESE ENGINES. The complete analysis of engine lubrication is naturally rather involved and it is not here necessary to go into details, therefore only a general treatment of the system under consideration, and the practical results obtained, will be given. Further notes are added dealing with the fundamentals of overoiling troubles applying to Phantom engines and as these notes have been compiled from a large number of tests carried out on both Phantom and Silver Ghost engines, it is hoped that they may be found useful for assisting in diagnosis should this trouble be encountered. The type of lubricating system employed depends upon the conditions it is desired to satisfy and in high speed engines where the load factor is usually high it is necessary to employ the full pressure feed systems. The system as a whole needs no description, but notes are given briefly describing the functions of the various components of this system. OIL PUMP. This is a gear pump running at half engine speed. The characteristic of this type of pump is that the flow from it is proportional to the speed at which it is driven and consequently proportional to the engine revs. per min. contd. | ||
