( 4 ) brake thumps. We should like to point out that in our opinion, it should not be necessary to have to use two spanners to adjust the damping load. The bolt should be held at the back so that it cannot turn. HARDY SPICER PROPELLOR SHAFT. 21 lbs. 3 ozs. EX. 22012 Driving Flange. Fitted after 6376 Miles. Up to the present mileage, the propellor shaft has been free from periods. No wear or slackness can be felt in the universal joints. The sliding sleeve is on the slack side but has not increased during the mileage. REAR AXLE. LOP GB.519. Axle N° Y 4 BE.56 II x 13 ratio. Axle Tubes GB.2033/4 798 Bevel Pinion. GB.405 Bevel Wheel. R & M 5 MDJT 30 Bearing. At a mileage of 5,000, the axle became noisy. Upon examination at the garage, the long 1/4" bolts holding the two halves of the axle casing were found loose, oil had escaped from the loose centre joint. The effect of this was, the pinion and crown wheel teeth picked up under the load. The oil seal on the O.S. driving shaft perished and was of no further use, consequently, oil was forced down the O.S. axle tube, the quantity being such, that it flooded the brakes. The car had to return to the Works as it was not possible to maintain oil in the axle. This was the 11/43 ratio. The axle was rebuilt with a 10/41 ratio to :- LOP GB.619 N° 56 BN.{W.O. Bentley / Mr Barrington} I. Complete to the above LOP incorporating :- Nose Bearing integral with pinion. EX 15037 Bevel Pinion ) GB. 186 Bevel Wheel ) 10 x 41 ratio. R.R. Product. GB. 2019 Centre Casing G.{Mr Griffiths - Chief Accountant / Mr Gnapp} 101281 Duplex Bearing - Bevel Wheel Housing. This axle has been quiet and no sign of oil leaks throughout the remaining mileage. FRONT AXLE. LOP GB.1235. GB. 1882/3 Axle Pivots. GB. 1224 Front Axle. The front axle beam was bent due to the car skidding on a corner and the axle hitting a stone. A new axle beam was procured from Paris and rebuilt up with the original pivots etc., The axle and pivots gave no trouble.
