Mr Barrington. X437 Sent to Mr Royce W. Bailey 4.9.12 X813 31.8.12 Test on Napier Plate clutch for "Jingling Clutch plates" Experimental Dept report as follows:- The Napier disc clutch does not jingle whenput together dry, this we have found is due to 2 reasons. 1. Because the plates are very light. 2. Because the clutch is never free, with the full movement possible on the pedal it needed a tremendous pressure onthe clutch brake to make it stop. The R.R. disc clutch under these conditions would not jingle. The clutch was put together with less number of plates so as to make it free, we could then hear a very slight noise only noticeable when one was close up to the clutch. It was the plates which fit in Contd. | ||
