MINCHIN WILLIAM PETO C.R.D. PRITCHETT T.W. PRITCHETT YOUR REF. ......... OUR REF. M/5. 25th September, 1930. E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} Fowler Clark, Esq., Messrs. Rolls Royce Ltd., DERBY. Dear Fowler Clark, I think you will hear shortly from our Dagenham people about the proposed interview re battery voltages. With regard to my points, for some unaccountable reason they seem to be giving much less trouble now and lasting much longer and I did not take them up to Mr. Bellringer because there was nothing really sufficiently serious showing. My difficulty, as you know, has always been at very low speeds, not at high speeds. I should think the condenser probably has got a lot to do with it and that a little variation there might have a big effect. With regard to the two ignitions, I note your report to R.{Sir Henry Royce} and there is certainly a lot in what you say, though what I urged (and I am only one of many private owners who have urged the same) is the complete dual ignition with, another set of plugs rather than an extra stand-by.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} As far as my criticisms are concerned, I do not think it would matter very much whether this additional ignition for the other plugs came from an additional coil or from the magneto. In fact there are arguments in favour of a second coil, but one would be wholly dependent on the one make and break and I suppose it would be quite possible for that to give trouble unless you fitted an extra one up where the magneto now is. I believe that sets are sold which take the place of a magneto, giving a coil instead. Yours sincerely, G.R.N. Minchin | ||
