To Wor.{Arthur Wormald - General Works Manager} for EH from R.{Sir Henry Royce} COPY. 2. R5/IB21515. If one takes a single speed of, say 1600 on our aero or standard engine, couples three of the cylinders together, and brings a pipe of various lengths between them and the carburetter, one could find out whether any very material ramming can be done by such an arrangement. It would be necessary to have an engine with a fair clearance volume, such as our standard engine, otherwise the compression might become excessive. I am aware that you have done considerable work in this direction, but I am not quite sure why we abandoned the idea of ramming the induction. F.H.R. | ||
