X.1356 Mr. Hives. from GWH.{George W. Hancock - Head Chateauroux} 13.5.21 X1356 X3743 Misfiring on 2.EX picking up. Tests carried out:- B.P. petrol - 1st. test standard - misfiring bad on both ignitions. 2nd. test - heat applied to induction pipe by blow lamp - misfiring still continued. 3rd. test - heat taken away from induction pipe - engine raced up on 3rd. gear for half a mile - tests taken immediately - no misfires for 2 or 3 test - misfiring coming on as engine cooled down. This test carried out three times - B.P. changed over to Shell standard test - misfiring still - heat applied to induction pipe. 1st. test misfiring still continuous - heat increased considerably to induction pipe - misfiring gradually disappeared - changed over to B.P. petrol while heat still on induction pipe - no misfiring - an occasional misfire came during further tests. Tests were also carried out as standard with radiator covered up until water was boiling - under these conditions misfiring still occurred but not so violent. Results of these tests show that internal heat was required. The amount of heat applied to induction pipe was so much that it would practically be impossible to apply it in standard practice.
