Dear Mr. Hives,

The time is approaching when my Bentley chassis should be nearing completion: it is promised to the agents, Messrs. W. Watson & Co. of Liverpool, for early March. I wonder if you would be so kind as to see to the following details before the chassis leaves your works:-

1. I hear rumours that the compression ratio is to be reduced whereas I had hoped that you would have increased it. Being used to what Robotham calls "scalded cat acceleration" on my Alfa, I should hate to be robbed of b.h.p. at high revs.: my brother's car is however very lively & I would not grumble if you could promise me that my chassis would perform at least as well as his at high engine revs. + low car speeds.
