X.3031 - RE MAGNALIUM METAL

We have already informed you of the receipt of one sample cwt. of Magnalium alloy which has been completed by Messrs. Blackwell, from 1cwt. of aluminium sent to them.
We are also hpoing to obtain in a little while a sample cwt. of Magnalium alloy from the Metropolitan Foundry, Barnes Bridge, London, S.W. We would like you to produce in Messrs. Blackwell's Magnalium, and also in the Metropolitan Foundry Magnalium, when we receive it, sample test pieces as instructed for the range of alloys already specified in memo EFC4/T9.5.17.
You may remember that these test pieces consisted of three Stanton test pieces of each metal, three Upton Lewis test pieces, and six Tensile test pieces to sketch given in memo above referred to.
Of the Magnalium alloy already to hand, the test pieces should be stamped M3, and in the case of the Magnalium alloy on order from the Metropolitan Foundry, please note that these test pieces, when we make them, should be stamped M4 to distinguish them from the M1 Magnalium metal and M2 Miralite metal from which we have already had test pieces.
