1110 EXPERIMENTAL DEPARTMENT. Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/NRC.{N. R. Chandler}2/JH. 19th. August, 1939. Borg & Beck Co.Ltd., Tachbrook Road, Leamington Spa. For the attention of Mr. Armitage. Dear Sirs, re 10" & 11" Long Clutches. The drawings of the above clutches show a dimension of 1.937 from the face of the flywheel to the face of the release lever adjusting screws, but since this dimension is entirely dependant upon the thickness of the setting plate (or driven plate) used at the time, may we suggest that the corresponding dimension from face of flywheel to face of pressure plate should also be given? In our case for example, we use a rig with a setting plate of .330, but the compressed thickness of the thermoid faced driven plate is approx. .350, consequently when using the rig, we set the levers to 2.062, in order to give 1.937 when the proper plate is fitted. We would be interested to know the thickness of the setting plate on your rig. Our reason for the above suggestion concerning the drawing, is that it would avoid the risk of confusion in the event of a driven plate differing from the setting plate (or assumed standard) being employed. Yours faithfully, FOR ROLLS-ROYCE LTD. | ||
