COPY. X4305 Oy 1 - G 2521. May 2, 1921. Mr. Claude Johnson, Managing Director, Rolls-Royce Ltd., London, England. Attention. Works Committee. Dear Sir, Re Chassis 45-AE. Under date of April 28th. Mr. Caswell reports as follows on the above chassis, from which it will be seen that core sand has been found in the throttle. "Upon dismantling the throttle to fit a special stud, to insure better distribution, a considerable quantity of sand was found in the body of the throttle. Is it not possible to remove every particle of sand before assembling, as there is no doubt that some of it will eventually find its way into the cylinders and cause more or less trouble." We enclose herewith a sample taken by Mr. Caswell from the throttle, which we think will be interesting to the Derby Works Committee. This is the first time we have discovered anything of this kind, and we do not imagine that other cars have suffered from the same defects. Yours truly, ROLLS-ROYCE OF AMERICA, Inc. Per (Sgd.)
