20 HP. DYNAMO WITH SOLID POLE PIECES. X4638

We have made careful tests of an otherwise standard 20 HP. dynamo, but with the laminated pole pieces replaced by solid pole pieces, and we can find no indication of any deleterious effect on the performance of either output curve, heating or noise. We see no reason why the machine should not be produced with solid pole pieces, and as it would be a comparatively inexpensive matter we suggest that you instruct half a dozen sets which Mr. Brock can put on his production machines and notice whether he can appreciate any difference. If this is done, we would like to have one of the machines in here for confirmatory test, after which, seeing that we are using solid pole pieces on 40/50 machines, we could probably put through a standardisation sheet without the necessity of a 10,000 mile test. That is to say, if it is any real advantage from the point of view of production to use solid poles instead of laminated.
