1020 Experimental Dept. Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/Swdl.{Len H. Swindell}G/MH.{M. Huckerby} 28th. December 1938. Messrs. Vandervell Products Ltd., Western Avenue, Park Royal, LONDON, W.3. For the attention of Mr. Johnson. Dear Sirs, We thank you for your letter of the 21st. together with the layout L.1118 for our experimental 2.75 journal crank engine. Unfortunately, we have not sufficient metal in the crankcase to house the larger outside diameter of the thrust washers. We propose, therefore, to use the housing and thrust washers with modification to the latter similar to the layout L.1095 for the 2.5 dia. journal crank. By coming down into the radius of the crank a reasonable width of thrust washer can be used. This is shown on the enclosed drawing EXS.1342 and would like you to supply 4 such sets of thrust washers together with the 4 sets of 2.75 main bearings you are supplying to us. The drawing only shows the tab half washer but the other half other than having no tab is identical. The above modification automatically deletes our requiring the 4 sets of thrust washers set out on your L.1118 drawing. Yours faithfully, for ROLLS-ROYCE LTD. | ||
