The Near Side spare wheel was noticed to have more movement after an approx mileage of 2700. Upon examination it was found that three of the bolts holding the carrier in conjunction with the steadying stay, the heads had broken off. We replaced these and ran with the spare wheel on the O.S. The same has happened again, the head of one bolt broke off after approx 4000 miles. We have since received 3/8" bolts to replace the 5/16" which had failed.

RADIATOR SHUTTERS & CONTROLS to LOP.E.81007.

Complete to the above LOP.
Es.590.D Thermostat Springs 15 lbs at 1.002" fitted.

The fitting of the spring has prevented the water becoming too cool when coasting, as previously experienced, the radiator shutters positively closing at a temperature of 50°C. We have not observed any overheating trouble due to the shutters not fully opening. The cooling effect has been adequate under the most trying conditions. Boiling point was reached during successive 3rd gear decelerations for braking tests. The maximum temperature reached during touring conditions was 90°C, the average temperature being 85°C. The air temperature under these conditions being 29°C - 30°C.

(During my trip in the Alps with Mr Pass, (Chassis 26.L.E), it was necessary twice to stop the car when descending, to close the radiator shutters, as the temperature had fallen to zero, the shutters having stuck).

BONNET to LOP.H.82930 - N.S.3894-3S98.

Rivetless Bonnet overhanging Dashboard 6.000" complete to the above LOP.
Stiffening Channels E.83026/7 fitted to Side Plates.
3, Flip-Flap Shutters fitted in each side plate.
Remax Bonnet Fasteners fitted.

The bonnet has been free from knocks on all but very bad roads. When travelling over such bad roads at a speed of 30 m.p.h. there were a series of sharp periods of knocking, which were in sympathy with the radiator movement. The condition of the bonnet is good.

It has been necessary to open the shutters during the extremely hot weather experienced, otherwise the heat under the scuttle was overbearing.

The Remax bonnet fasteners after resetting, have been fairly easy to operate. The manufacture of these, however, are inferior and they are gradually becoming more difficult to operate.
