We send herewith N.sch.2834 shewing a suggested means of supplying oil to the forward race of the N.D. type bearing on hypoid pinions.

This is following the experimental report on the trial at full throttle on low gear that this race appeared to be getting insufficient oil. We think that enough oil should be collected by this to supply the bearing. if not it is possible that by modifying the casing we can cast in a gallery opposite the crown wheel leading to a drilling to the top of the bearing housing which would ensure a full supply. As this means new casings we have not yet proposed it.

If the bolt boss immediately above the bearing housing masks the slot we suggest that it can be cut back for a width of perhaps 1.5" opposite the crown wheel without causing any serious leak through the bolt. The latter could be provided with a cap nut if there was any leak at all.
