AMERICAN PRACTICE.
Some time ago I wrote to Oy, saying that as they had produced an 8 cyl., 12 cyl., and 16 cyl., engines would he give me his views as regards the merits of each design.
Knowing also that they had had a Daimler car with a fluid flywheel and epicyclic gear on the General Motors proving Ground, we asked for his views on gearboxes. We told him that we had been trying the Maybach scheme without much success.
We also asked him for information as regards the methods which were being used to obtain cheap silent helical gears.
We think the reply (copy of which we attach), is of general interest especially his remarks regarding the Vee 8 engine.
