RE. DYNAMOS.

In our discussions with R.{Sir Henry Royce} re dynamos, he was very emphatic that he wished experiments to be carried out as suggested in R.3/M24.6.31.

We are sending through a report today which shews another alternative of increasing the output for the dynamo by the finer field winding. This is a very simple alteration. Like all the other modifications which have been tried to increase the output at high speeds, it increases the cutting in speed.

My own view it that there is no necessity to increase the output from the dynamo any more than the last scheme, which is being run 10,000 miles on 25-EX. and which is being adopted for N.2 Series.

The position is, that originally on Phantom 11 we had numerous complaints, and we have modified at least 100 dynamos to give increased output. We have never had a single complaint from a customer of the output not being sufficient once we have modified the dynamo. The output which has satisfied the customers is less than on the machines fitted to N.2. Series. Therefore, we feel there is no urgent demand for still further increase in output.

We are putting these views before R.{Sir Henry Royce} This does not mean that we should not go on with experimental work, and I do not think R.{Sir Henry Royce} will be satisfied if we do not carry out his suggestions. These suggestions are not expensive.
