I think it is desirable at this stage to hand over a pair of gears which have failed to the Laboratory for examination, so that they can check the casing and see that the gears are quite normal from the point of view of the structure of the material and the quality of the case hardening. I think we ought to make an examination of this kind quickly, as it may be considered that we have not taken an obvious precaution in examining the gears which have failed metallurgically. BY.{R.W.
