BENTLEY CAR - CHASSIS B.24.DG. CAPT. EYSTON.

I am returning herewith Kingsbury memo (ref. PK/KC/DPB/17.9.38.

I have arranged to issue a Depot Sheet clearing up the position in regard to the 3 1/2 Litre engine. My proposals are :-

(a). For known fast drivers, such as Capt. Eyston, A.F.R. Fedden, and other similar people we will fit Hall's metal big end bearings, with a large pump. The main bearings will be as previously, white metal, as these are quite satisfactory on the 3 1/2 litre engine.

(b). For ordinary customers, when remetalling is necessary we give them the option of buying a new pump, when we will fit our improved bearing metal to the rods, pointing out that the new metal cannot be fitted without the increased capacity pump.

Failing this, where a customer is satisfied, such as myself, we will continue to fit white metal big ends as previously.

(c). It should be noted, however, that when a 3 1/2 litre is dismantled we bring the bearings and the crankshaft in line with Mod 'C', which has been issued for the 4 1/4 litre, having Hall's metal bearings throughout, that is to say the grooving of the white metal main bearings is in accordance with Mod. 'C' and the crankshaft is drilled also, so as to bring it up to the latest practice.
